Outside loop

THE current economic downturn has and is affecting everybody.

While various schemes might be available to a majority of people if they are in need, there is one group of people who are completely outside of the loop.

These are people who in the past held and in many cases still hold C2 certificates.

These are self-employed people who perhaps were even giving gainful employment to others.

This group of people now find themselves completely debarred from any schemes such as job seekers’ benefit or job seekers’ allowance. I believe this to be very unfair and some alternative scheme should be put in place to cater for them.

Deputy Jackie Healy-Rae has made a proposal to government for such a scheme to be introduced in the near future, if at all possible.
