Big milestone

I WELCOME the announcement that Queen Elizabeth II will pay a State visit to Ireland, possibly next year.

Queen Elizabeth’s visit will mark a significant milestone and a coming of age, in the relationship between our two neighbouring States.

I trust that the itinerary for the Queen’s visit will afford her the opportunity to experience, first hand, the beauty and heritage of Ireland. As well as visiting our capital city, I would earnestly urge that Queen Elizabeth’s schedule includes a visit to the lakes of Killarney, where she could follow in the footsteps of her great, great grandmother, Queen Victoria.

Next year will be the 150th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s visit to Killarney where she visited Killarney house and stayed at Muckross House in 1861.

The royal visit that year helped put Killarney firmly on the map as a destination for discerning Victorian travellers.

Killarney is world-renowned today as a premier tourist destination and as the tourism capital of Ireland.

It would be entirely fitting that Queen Elizabeth’s visit should include a visit to Beauty’s Home and Heaven’s Reflex in Killarney, when it happens.
