NAMA chefs steal show at fancy dress

THE hot topics of the day were very adequately covered when the children of Killarney turned out in force for the annual fancy dress parade which is a hugely popular part of the age-old Bird’s Carnival Week at the Killarney funfair.

One of the biggest entry lists for years was reported as the imaginative children donned their finery and turned on a show to remember to make the adjudicators’ task even more difficult.

From creative young chefs making dough for NAMA and Queens of Fashion at Killarney Races to athletic young golfers hitting town for the Irish Open to a colourful Mad Hatter’s Tea Party, all human life was there and a great night of celebration was had by all.

The rain threatened to play spoilsport towards the close but at that stage the judges had already completed their deliberations, the trophies and prizemoney had been handed out and all the children that entered were making the most of the free passes they received to enable them to enjoy all the fun of the fair.

The fancy dress parade was the highlight of an action-packed and thoroughly enjoyable Carnival Week which also featured an exciting dog show, a wild flower show, an art competiton, a doll’s night out and an Irish dancing evening.

Thousands of children passed through the funfair for the duration of the week to enjoy one of the longest running and most popular festivals in Killarney’s history.

The funfair will be in full swing again throughout the Irish Open before moving on to Puck Fair in Killarney and the Rose of Tralee festival.
