Kerry Way walk a big hit
THE 2010 Kerry Way cancer research walk, launched by GAA legend and pundit, Pat Spillane, took place at thee weekend and the teak-tough participants were thrilled that the elements remained favourable to allow them to complete their task in relative comfort.
The multiple All-Ireland medal-winning star got the 200 walkers on their way for the three-day hill walk on Friday and they made their way from various parts of the country to Kenmare where the marathon task was completed on Sunday.
"There are still too many people, family, friends and fellow players who are affected by cancer. The research this walk supports is the kind of cutting-edge research that will change that," Spillane said.
"The Kerry Way provided a spectacular setting for this fun event and the three routes for 2010 were both stunning and challenging," he remarked.
The Kerry Way walk involved a total trek of 70km and, over the years, the event has already raised almost €300,000 for cancer research in the past four years.
This year, the goal was to raise €100,000 for cancer research programmes at Cork Cancer Research Centre.
At the weekend the various legs of the walks took place from Tahilla to Kenmare (22km), on Friday; Moll’s Gap to Kenmare (26km) on Saturday, and from Glengarriff to Kenmare (22kms), on Sunday.
