Festival fun for all ages in Killarney
FUN is most certainly the name of the game at the 2010 Killarney SummerFest which is currently in full swing with plenty of activities, events and concerts to keep everybody enthralled.
The fun fest will see the streets of the town come alive with everything from mime artists and jugglers to giant animatronic puppets from this Thursday until Sunday evening.
Other additions to the programme include a collaboration between Circus Gerbola and Spraoi Chiarraí to create an Irish traditional music circus and a special céilí on Main Street on this Wednesday.
The Killarney SummerFest black tie ball was a big hit on Thursday night and the hugely popular teddy bears’ picnic, including a visiting teddy bear hospital, packed them in at Muckross Gardens.
For the more energetic there was a big entry 5km fun run on Saturday which had the most scenic route through Killarney National Park at Knockreer.
Other outdoor activities to look forward to will include kayaking on the lakes of Killarney, horse riding, rock climbing, hill walking and mountain climbing.
Indoor concert highlights will include The High Kings, The Hothouse Flowers and Sharon Shannon, Mundy and Friends.
The official Irish Open Festival Par-Tee will also take place at the INEC next weekend. SummerFest chief Patrick O’Donoghue said: "We feel it is one of our most exciting and colourful festivals to date".
Meanwhile, RTÉ presenter Kathryn Thomas will share a taste of Killarney SummerFest this week as her programme The Festival Roadshow rolls into Kerry.
The programme from Killarney will air on RTÉ this Friday at 9.35pm offering a flavour of the excitement and craic on offer at this year’s big event.
